V5 Controller Paddles

During the V5 Beta programme back in 2018 I had the privilege of being assigned a set of V5 electronics. While I was no longer competing, I remembered what I valued as a driver when it came to being on the controls - good access to the surrounding buttons while not taking your thumbs off the joysticks. I felt like the usability of the face buttons while continuing to use the joysticks could be improved, and sought to create an accessory for this.

I created a unit which clips into the underside of the V5 controller, with four levers that can be controlled using middle/ring fingers below the controller, triggering the B/Y/R/D buttons on the face. The system is 3D printed, using 2 No. 8-32x1.00" standard VEX screws with steel washers to act as the joints on each side. This has been tested by New Zealand-based teams, both locally and at VEX Worlds events, and has been through a few iterations based on feedback.

STL files for the plastic parts are now available for download from Thingiverse.
